Dear Members and Friends of SIETAR Italia,
I would like to take the opportunity to wish everyone a very Happy New Year, on behalf of the SIETAR Italia Board.

May the New Year bring intercultural experiences, encounters and enrichment!

We are doing our best to make 2019 a memorable year.

SIETAR Italia has scheduled many events and activities for the year to come. To begin with, the prizegiving Ceremony for the Feeling Italian Photo Contest which will take place at 6:00 pm on 25th January 2019 at ALTAVIA Italia (Via Alzaia Naviglio Pavese, 78/3, Milan). The following day (26th January 2019) we will hold the Annual General Meeting in the morning (9:30-13:00), and in the afternoon (14:00-17:30) the Round Table on “Immigration and Intercultural Challenges in the World of Work, Society and Organizations” at ALTAVIA Italia. You can view the events calendar 2019 on our website (www.sietaritalia.org).

As President of the Association, I would like to give you a run-down of what SIETAR Italia was able to organize in 2018 and thank all those people who actively contributed, with their time and resources, to achieve what we did.

In 2018, we staged 10 events, as well as the SIETAR Italia Annual General Meeting at the end of January 2018, in which we celebrated the 10th Anniversary of the Association. We published the conference proceedings “Multicultural Identities: Challenging the Sense of Belonging” thanks to the support of the Intercultura Onlus Foundation and contributed to various SIETAR Europa publications.

We significantly increased the average attendance at each event, thanks to the presence on the web and social media, and consequently a stronger brand identity, but also thanks to an agreement for the recognition of training credits drawn up with the Association of Social Workers. This has made our brand identity ever more recognizable.

In May, we presented the results of the research “Contrasting the Fear of the Foreigner: Building Antibodies, Finding Antidotes” at the Palazzo Marino Town Hall under the aegis of the Milan City Council. We started the Feeling Italian project, together with Fabbrica del Vapore, the Municipality of Milan, and private partners. We also set up a project to research difficult intercultural coaching cases.

Last year, SIETAR Italia membership grew and thanks to training workshops by our members and our publications we received substantial donations, which have improved our financial situation.

Everything we organized in 2018 was thanks to the hard work and commitment of the SIETAR Italia Board and the Advisory Board. Our gratitude also goes to our graphic and webmaster Lorenzo Gabriele Fignon of LGF Linee Grafiche Formazione, to our volunteer Giuseppe Caramma, who supported the Communication and Events team, and Cristina Greco, who together with IDRInstitute, worked with us very hard to support the realization of the Feeling Italian Photo Contest.

SIETAR Italia can only exist with increased and active membership. We therefore ask you all to join or renew your membership for the current year (to register click here). Joining SIETAR Italia also means being part of the SIETAR Europa and GLOBAL SIETAR networks. Moreover, we always welcome donations to support our works and the Feeling Italian project (for donations click here).

I look forward to meeting you all in Milan, on 25th and 26th January 2019, for the Feeling Italian Photo Contest and the SIETAR Italia AGM.

My warmest regards and best wishes for the year to come,

Maura di Mauro
